Sinister Mirror
CNC’d plywood
24” x 36” x 1.5”

Riffing off a line from Jorge Luis Borges’s Labyrinths, which wryly suggests that both mirrors and the act of copulation are sinister because they multiply the number of men, this mirror takes a contrived, fantasy-based approach to the sinister. The frame is made via hyper-industrialized processes, of digitally designed CNC’d plywood. It is finished, however, to look like fine hardwood, thus creating a confusion of material placement. The mirror itself is not quite fantastic, not quite rational — instead, it exists within a liminal space, both posing as a portal to a new world and as a reflection of the one we live in.
